Research of RKO Studios

RKO studios stands for 'Radio-Keith-Orpheum' and it is an American film production and distribution company. Some of the most famous films to come out of RKO studios are 'King Kong' and 'Citizen Kane'. RKO studios was known as one of the big five studios of Hollywood Golden age. An industrialist Howard Hughes took over RKO in 1948. This didn't go very well and in 1955 the studio was bought by the 'General tire and Rubber company'. The original RKO studios ceased production in 1957 and effectively dissolved to years later. In 1989 there was only a few remaining assets, the trademark and everything else was sold to the new owners, who now operate a small independent company RKO Pictures.
